Green Day é uma banda de punk rock dos Estados Unidos formada em 1987 em East Bay, Califórnia. A banda é composta por Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt e Tré Cool. Nunca fui muito fãs dos meninos, pois sempre achei-os extremamente barulhentos, mas uma coisa ou outra que eles fazem, me chama a atenção. E esse disco é uma dessas pérolas.

Na verdade, este disco duplo é a trilha sonora da peça “American Idiot” que está em cartaz na Broadway.

O Green Day lançou o álbum conceito American Idiot, em 2004, e de acordo com seu vocalista Billie Joe Armstrong, o álbum foi deliberadamente criado com uma narrativa minuciosa e que algumas das suas fontes de inspiração foi no repertório do teatro musical, como The Rocky Horror Show e West Side Story. A banda pretendia criar um filme em cima do repertório de American Idiot. O diretor Michael Mayer ouviu o álbum e manifestou interesse em adaptar para o palco. E assim, em 5 de setembro de 2009, o musical estreou no Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Somente em 20 de abril de 2010, “American Idiot” estreou oficialmente na Broadway no St. James Theatre.

Quanto ao CD DUPLO The Original Broadway Cast Recording 'American Idiot' eu adorei. Os arranjos vocais e orquestrados são lindos! É uma porrada sonora! Os intérpretes vocais são todos de primeira qualidade e eu não consigo encontrar nada para reclamar neste CD. A mais bela canção indubitavelmente é "21 Guns", arrepia até a alma. As vozes, os arranjos, as letras - todas maravilhosas. Nunca fui fã deles, mas tenho que me render e dizer, com toda certeza, que o casamento do Green Day com a Broadway é perfeito para dois gêneros tão diferentes. Ao ouvir, tive a sensação de que veria a turma do Glee entrar pela minha sala cantando. Adorei! Imagino se tivesse visto a peça...
